What To Wear To An Outdoor Concert

Written By: Shannon Boyce

Some concert venues are better than others. The summer months mean there are many new and exciting places to check out a show. Like outdoor theatres, festival stages, and even the beach. Live music can happen just about anywhere! Recently, I was able to see a Duran Duran concert at a massive outdoor amphitheatre. It was incredible to watch the sun set as the evening went on. The only downside? The weather shifted from blisteringly hot to cool and breezy. My perfectly selected outfit was less than ideal by the time the opening acts walked off stage. Don't let it happen to you. This guide will help you look great and be comfortable at your next outdoor concert.

Think About The Concert Specifics.
When it comes to choosing the perfect outdoor concert outfit? There are certain things you need to think about. Like the venue itself and the band you are seeing. The venue particulars are especially important to consider. For instance, does the outdoor theatre offer some shade? Or none at all? Are there seats or  will you be sitting on the ground? Do certain sections have air conditioning or cooling stations? Knowing what you can expect will help you choose the best possible outfit. The same can be said for the actual band you are seeing. Maybe you want to throw on an old band tee or embrace the genre of music. (Seeing an 80s band? Go bolder with your makeup. Heading to a rock concert? Reach for distressed denim.)

Make Good Fabric Choices.
Something else to consider? The fabrics you choose. You might have a super cute romper hanging in your closet...but if the fabric is not breathable, you will feel hot and sticky all day long. Not ideal for a concert. The best thing to do? Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, or chambray. Moisture wicking fabric is also a good idea. Have your heart set on another type of fabric? Balance it out by wearing light colours. They do not absorb the sunlight the same way dark coloured fabrics do.

Choose Your Accessories Wisely.
There is nothing better than a super cute accessory. The right one can elevate your outfit - and make you feel like a million bucks. However, it is important to be very careful when choosing accessories for an outdoor concert. Too many accessories (as well as bulky or heavy accessories) can be quite hot in the sun. Other accessories can make you sweat more. Then there are cheaper accessories to consider. When you are in the sun for long periods of time? They can actually turn your skin green. So be selective. Add fewer accessories to your look, make sure they are comfortable, and reach for higher quality pieces.

Remember That Layering Is Essential.
This is a lesson I learned the hard way. Laying is an essential part of any outdoor concert experience. It might be hot and humid during the afternoon and early evening. Once the sun goes down? And the winds start to pick up? It can feel pretty chilly. Focus on layering your look. Keep a lightweight cardigan in your purse, add on a long skirt, or throw a colourful scarf around your neck. Layering will keep you looking stylish and feeling comfortable. Whatever the temperature may be!
