Snag The 90's Look In 4 Simple Steps

Written By: Shannon Boyce

Feel like getting trendy? How about stepping back in time? There is something undeniably exciting about the resurgence of 1990's fashion. Suddenly we are seeing old-school designs come back in vogue. Everything that had been forgotten (like exaggerated lip liner and ultra distressed jeans) is back and bigger than ever. If you are ready to embrace the trend, then keep reading. These tips will help you snag a fabulous 90's inspired look.

Swap Out Your Go To Accessories. Everyone has those accessories in their collection that get worn over and over gain. It could be a sparkly pair of earrings or a long dangly necklace. At least for now! It is time to swap them out for some fun alternatives. Add on things, like a cute backpack or a mini-backpack, a choker necklace, a cute scrunchie, or an updated mood ring. (There are super stylish versions these days. They are a major step up from those cheap dollar store versions that used to be in your collection.) Don't be afraid to be playful with accessories. It will give your look plenty of 90's flair.

Be Open To Darker Lip Colors. Achieving the ultimate 90's lip is super simple these days. You might have noticed a major surge in medium to dark brown lipstick shades. They are all over the drugstore, online, and in high-end shops. That means you can score a gorgeous makeup look...whatever your budget happens to be. All you do need to do? Choose a brown-nude lip liner and carefully line your lips. Then apply a matte brown lipstick shade. (A few suggestions include: Dolce K by Kylie, Brownie by Bobbie Brown, 1995 by Gerald Costmetics, and Nude Thrill by Maybelline.) You will look amazing - and totally in trend.

Remember That Plaid IS Always Your Friend. There is no avoiding it. Plaid and flannel is a key part of the 90's look. Thankfully, it is easy to find. In fact, you might already have a plaid shirt hanging in your closet. Take a look! Once you have your plaid top it is time to get creative. There are many ways to incorporate this piece into your 90's inspired look. Tie it around your waist or layer a cropped tank underneath. Or you can wear it underneath a super modern blazer. The combination is guaranteed to turn a few heads. Want to branch out a little more? Wear a pair of plaid pants, a plaid bomber jacket, or add on a cute plaid printed clutch.

Keep Your Footwear Ultra Casual. High heels are great. So are wedges, sandals, and many other types of footwear. If you want to go full blown 90's though? Make sure you choose something ultra casual and comfy. Ditch those glittery flats. Forget about the stilettos. A pair of sneakers is an absolute must. Any kind of sneakers will do! (Bonus points if you choose a worn-down pair of skater shoes.) The most important thing is that you wear them with everything. That includes ripped up jeans, baggy t-shirts, and even that floral dress. With your oh-so-casual footwear... your look will scream 90's.
